Aegerion Pharmaceuticals Enters into Cross License Agreement

Agreement expands Aegerion platform for development and global commercialization of new therapies for cholesterol management

BRIDGEWATER, NJ (October 6, 2006) Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in collaboration with Pfizer Inc and the University of Pennsylvania, have entered into a cross-license relationship covering a range of patents related to the use of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) inhibitors. Based on the terms of the agreement, Aegerion can independently pursue product development opportunities involving MTP-based therapies as potential treatments to reduce LDL cholesterol. MTP inhibitors have been proven effective in reducing LDL levels in men and women and are being studied for potential use as monotherapies or in combination with statins or other therapies to reduce LDL cholesterol levels.
